too long or too often?

In Chinese, the word means “too long”(太長) sounds exactly the same as “too often”(太常).
I asked Jenny this morning (in Chinese): You wrote that people live in the United States averagely purchase a new mobile phone every 7 months. Really? Isn’t that too often.
She was confused at first. Too long?
